Aggie On a hot August day in the summer of 2005, the Louisa County Animal Control Department received an unusual report. A nine month old black Lab/Corgi mix was curled up in the middle of the road next to a dog that appeared dead from being struck by a car. When Animal Control reached the scene, they discovered the young dog left behind was blind and almost entirely deaf. But despite her disabilities, she was remarkably friendly and sweet, smiling broadly whenever she was petted. As fate would have it, The Mosby Foundation crossed paths with the Louisa Humane Society at the Veggie Fest in Charlottesville, VA where the LHS had Aggie up for adoption. We learned that Aggie has Juvenile cataracts and needs surgery to correct the problem. But the juvenile cataract surgery will cost as much as $2,500 and it must be raised before November 15. That’s when we offered to help. The Mosby Foundation has made a donation towards Aggie’s surgery, and we are working with the Louisa Humane Society to raise between $2,000-$3,000 for her surgery and follow up care. Imagine how it will feel for her to wake up and see a world full of color and moving images, to be able to match faces to pats on the head, identify favorite dog treats by their shape and size, and to actually see the people that care for her! It’s going to be such a gift for her to realize there is more to life than just touch. Just think how much more adoptable she will be once she regains her sight! Whether you’re four-legged or two-legged, you have to agree, she deserves the chance to enrich someone else’s life. Please consider donating whatever you can to The Mosby Foundation so that Aggie can make somebody else’s life rich. UPDATE 6-19-06 If it's true thre are no coincidences, then this happy pairing was certainly a blessing from above! When a Maryland couple lost their beloved dwarf black Lab to Alzheimer's, they were heartbroken. Then they saw Aggie on a website. Aggie was blind and partially deaf, as was their former dog. The couple immediatly adopted Aggie and she lives with them on a farm, completely adored and loved. |
