Millie is a 2-year-old Labrador retriever/English foxhound mix who was rescued from a shelter where her mom volunteered. Abused and neglected by her previous owners, Millie was sitting there looking so defeated. Her mom knew immediately that she had to take her home so she adopted Millie the same day and never looked back. Millie is a playful, clever, lovable, goofy dog and the two spend every possible minute together. After a heart murmur was detected, Millie was taken to a veterinary cardiologist where she was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). PDA is a condition where the ductus arteriosus fails to close after birth. It must be surgically corrected to save Millie’s life. Without surgery, her prognosis is not good and the cardiologist fears Millie has the potential to go into congestive heart failure within a couple of months. The good news is with surgery, Millie is expected to live out the rest of her years as a happy and healthy pup! While Millie’s mom is frantically trying to raise funds on her own, she is a long way from ensuring Millie can have her surgery in time to save her from the devastating side effects of her condition. Her mom states, “I truly cannot imagine life without Millie. Our life together has just begun, and I’m nowhere ready for it to end. Your help would mean the world to Millie and me!”
